Anglo American has an exciting opportunity for a Plant Learnership at Sishen Mine in Kathu, South Africa. This structured 2-year Plant/Mining Learnership Programme provides practical and theoretical experience in plant or mining operations and processes. The program is designed to equip unemployed South African youth, particularly from labour-sending areas in the Northern Cape, with the essential skills needed in the mining industry.

Participants will gain hands-on experience in plant/mining processes, learn safety protocols, and develop technical competencies while contributing to sustainable operations. The learnership also promotes community development and inclusivity, preparing learners for meaningful roles in the mining sector.

Responsibilities

•  Comply with health and safety regulations during training and practical work assignments.
•  Maintain a clean and organised workspace to ensure a safe and effective working environment.
•  Participate actively in SLAMs, HPHs, and relevant risk assessments.
•  Training Modules: Attend theoretical and practical training sessions as part of the structured 2-year program.
•  Hands-On Learning: Perform supervised tasks, including machinery operation, processing/mining techniques, and plant/mining maintenance.
•  Support Operations: Assist with daily plant activities such as monitoring equipment, recording operational data, and troubleshooting minor issues.
•  Technical Skills Development: Learn plant/mining processes, equipment handling, and production optimisation techniques.
•  Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively to achieve training and production goals.
•  Assessments: Complete evaluations to demonstrate progress and competency.
•  Documentation: Maintain records of training progress and submit required reports.
•  Community Engagement: Represent the organisation positively in interactions with local communities and labour-sending areas.

Requirements

•  Grade 12/N3 Technical or equivalent.
•  South African citizen with a valid ID document.
•  Valid South African driver’s licence.
•  Proof of Residence.

Skills & Competencies

•  Ability to understand instructions, read documents, and perform basic calculations.
•  Introductory knowledge of workplace safety and personal protective equipment (PPE) usage.
•  Basic understanding of plant or mining environments.
•  Awareness of environmental impact and waste management practices.
